Increase credit limit with Citi credit cards

by Hustler on May 9, 2007

Here’s a how to guide to instantly increase your credit limit with Citibank:

  1. Log in Citibank account
  2. On the Menu Bar

, go to Manage Account, then Credit Line Increase Request

A new window pops out:

  1. Instantly approved: This means that no hard credit is pulled. Simply accept.
  2. Manual review

: You don’t want this, because this will require a hard pull.

Normally, you will be instantly approved every six months if you do this with Citibank. It is always a good idea to have a bigger credit line. Why? For one thing, it keeps your debt ratio lower. This helps your credit score. Another reason is to balance transfer credit limit to your new 0% apr card later…hence more free money to play with for apporama.

I was under the impression that when a person/company that you already have a line of credit with pulls your credit again (even a hard pull), it does NOT affect your score..

Whenever a hard pull is done, 5 points is deducted from your FICO score.

I have a Balance of about $11,000 on my $15,800 credit line Citi card(0% APR balance transfer game!). Still is it OK to request a credit line increse? and by how much so that there is less chance of a denial without affecting my credit score ?

In your case, I would call them. Ask them you would like a increase in credit limit. Tell them you want the max without doing a hard pull.

I just tried this and didn’t get either response. Instead I got a message that my CLI request was automatically sent to their credit dept. for review. Doh! There goes a hit on my credit report. Maybe a high CL to income ratio triggers this instead of the responses you noted above.

No form/window popped up. Would have had to fill in a mini appl.
