For those Rate Chasers out there, Southern Community Bank and Trust’s Ready Saver Account is giving out 2.00% APY on all balances. The account is available to everyone except for North Carolina residents. Minimum initial deposit is $1 and there is no monthly service fees. Interest accrues monthly and you must receive e-statement. They also have ACH to ACH transfer.
One important note is that you must sign into your online banking account monthly. There is a $3.00 fee per withdrawal for going over the 6 withdrawals limit. A maximum of $15K in electronic transfer but it seems that they do not enforce. They want to bring in new money, hence it’s not available for North Carolina residents since they have branches there.
Southern Community Bank and Trust has its headquarters in Winston Salem with branches in several North Carolina cities including Asheville, Greensboro, Winston-Salem and Raleigh. I guess they’re excluding NC residents so they can bring in only new money. It has been reported that there will be a hard pull with Equifax for all new accounts.
