Strategy for credit limit increase with Discover Credit Card

by Hustler on May 14, 2007

If you have a Discover credit card, it’s a good idea to increase your credit limit. You want to increase your credit limit in order for lower utilization which will resulted in higher FICO score. Discover usually hands out 5000 dollars credit limit whenever approving new cards.

Discover Credit Limit Increase strategy:

  1. Call CSR in the back of your card, and ask for credit limit increase without doing a hard pull.
  2. Call them every 3 months til’ you reach the 15K mark.
  3. Once you reached 15K credit limit, a hard pull is required.
  4. 15K is the magic mark without hard pull. You do not want hard pull since it will hurt your score.
  5. If regular CSR does not grant you CLI without hard pull, ask to talk to the manager and for a reconsideration.
  6. Some excuses for CLI are: I spent more than it’s available, I’ve good payment history, or I will use my other cards and BT to other issuers if you don’t increase my credit limit.

I recommend the following Discover cards if you don’t have any:(*click on the image)

12000 bonus miles and 0% APR for 12 months
Miles Card from Discover® Card

5% cash back on Gas and 0% APR for 12 months
